Kayce and Jon are expecting their first child this summer and I am so excited to be able to photograph the before and after! We had a perfect evening at Red Willow Park in St Albert with the warm evening summer sun. While I love the long days of summertime, it can be tricky as a photographer. We want to shoot our sessions at “Golden Hour” as the sun is setting and the colour is beautiful. But in Edmonton in the summertime, sunset is after can be later than 10 pm. Crazy long days up north!

Spring in Edmonton, over the last few years, has been extremely windy. 2020 has been no different. It’s sad because the crab apple tree blossoms (or cherry blossoms as most people call them) blow off the trees after only a short few days. The morning of my maternity photography session with Salem was cold and the wind gusting to 50km/h. Not ideal for photos. As I was prepping to leave a storm starting rolling through. Double not ideal for photos! However, as I drove to the location in the Edmonton river valley, the clouds moved off and the sun came out. It was an absolutely beautiful evening! Salem was joined by her beautiful children, her sister and her parents. Please enjoy these maternity photos at one of Edmonton’s hidden gems for blossoms!

We had the most perfect evening for spring maternity photos in Edmonton with Preeti and her husband. Most of the cherry trees were finished blooming (although they are actually ornamental crabapple trees), but there was one surprise tree at Hawrelak Park that had just blossomed! And, if I can remember, there were no mosquitoes! It was like a photography jackpot. I love the diversity of Hawrelak Park, so many options and different looks for photographs. Preeti welcomed an adorable little boy in early summer. I will share those photos from his Edmonton newborn session soon! And check the Before & After edit at the end of the post. There was an ugly utility box right where the beautiful tree was. I had to take it out!

Also if you are into Geocaching, or looking to try it, Hawrelak Park is a great spot to start. There are a lot of geocaches hidden on the trails and inside the park boundaries. It’s such a fun activity to do with your kids. We keep a trinket filled ziplock bag in the car in case we are out and decide to do some spontaneous geocaching.

I have photographed Christy and her family several times over the years. They will be blessed very soon with a baby girl! I was excited to get outside in the Spring sunshine and photograph them on the grounds by the Muttart Conservatory Pyramids.

These two little babies were so sweet! They snuggled together and were so content. We even got to do a sibling photo with their dog. I don’t know how many times I passed Cohen & Elliot back and forth between mom/dad and their bassinets during our session yesterday. They hardly moved. Especially Cohen. And dad said he was the squirmy one.  What an amazing brother and sister duo photograph!

After several years of waiting, Kristi is expecting her first child. I was honoured to be the one chosen to photograph her and her baby through the first year of her life!

Newborn baby Ethan was soooooo so good during his photoshoot at my west Edmonton photography studio! And how could it not go well? I had a perfect sunset maternity session with his parents at St Albert’s Red Willow Park!

I love me a chonky newborn baby! Look at his cheeks! So cute. And his beautiful big sister Pyper got to join in for a photo. (*any photo I post that involves an animal and a newborn is a composite photo. I will also only attempt them with a pet that can show me they can obey the Sit, Lay Down and Stay commands*)
